Tuesday 25 November




Dear Members and Friends

The next meeting of Chiang Mai Friends Group will be on Tuesday 25 November at our new venue – the International Centre of Chiang Mai University in the Mandalay Rooms (2nd floor). It is also called Uniserv CMU. (Please view the attached map) 23 Nimmanhemin Rd.
There is ample car parking, it is centrally located and easy to find.
We start as usual with our Friends dinner around 5.30 followed by our meeting at 7pm
The dinner is provided by Lemon Tree Restaurant (they also have a branch at Huai Kaeo Road which many of you will know) you can choose and pay from their very extensive menu.
Meeting only with tea/coffee biscuits etc is 80 baht
Agenda:
           •A Musical Performance by CMU students
           •Special guests and new members welcomed
           •A very short report on the last meeting and associated events since that meeting
           •Brief introduction on work of Uniserv by its director Prof Dr Anurok Panyamuwot
           •Short talk and slideshow on Foundation of Education of Rural Children (FERC)
          •School of Life – a new idea encouraging children to love their home town and encouraging them to continue helping their local community
           •Aids awareness talk by Chiangmai Pride. Chiangmai Friends are please to be associated with this programme
           •Madrigal singing by The Spirit House Singers

 A talk by Carole Beauclerk. Carole’s background is in teaching and her interest in cross-cultural issues results from having lived in many counties in Asia, the Middle East and elsewhere. Carole is active in the local community giving of her free time to assist in language learning as a volunteer in the Mayor’s office. She wants her talk to be interactive with much audience discussion so come armed with some questions!!

 

  1. Members share experiences

An informal open forum which can be a question and answer type session or just members sharing their ideas and views and helping others.  A good opportunity to network for the benefit of everyone. Bring your business card. We want to involve all members of the Chiang Mai Friends Group. We are all part of the Chiang Mai community

     7 Next meeting and future events.

Monday 4 November  Cleaning Day. Meet at Railway station at 8am. Mayor will open the event at 8.30 and volunteer teams of Farang and Thai will form groups to do a clean-up of parts of the city. Ends 12am for a lunch together. Please telephone on numbers below for fuller details or see previous email to members..

 

Tuesday 4 November. Mayor’s monthly meeting. Three Kings Monument Expats warmly welcomed. Enjoy the small evening buffet so kindly provided by the Municipality. Starts 6pm in building behind the monument. Parking inside the complex available

Wednesday 12 November Chiangmai Friends will be celebrating with their own contribution to the procession. Details will be emailed later.

1 – 7 December Thailand Environmental Week      in association with Global Warming Watch Network. Further details will be provided at the meeting.

Tuesday 23 December:  Chiangmai Friends Meeting. Joe and Martha, who are visiting Thailand in December from Alaska, are presenting a lap-top slide presentation of their home state Promises to be of great interest as Martha has an Eskimo background.

8. THE NEW CHIANGMAI FRIENDS GROUP membership card

Khun Boong will explain the proposed structure of our group where we are all members of the local community.

We have some exciting developments including a special member discount at the Maranikorn Lunch Buffet. Their buffets are amongst the best in Chiangmai as many of you may have experienced.

 

Tuesday 25 November will be our TENTH Birthday!!!  It is our tenth meeting and we are growing from strength to strength Please come and enjoy the evening. We have arranged a very varied programme for you.
